MediaSavi New York

Avimap has just launched a new generation of interactive video and location frameworks called MediaSavi.

A demo of this unique new system can be found here.

MediaSavi allows you to connect various types of streaming video to a unique map-based UI, where the map pans and zooms to highlight key aspects of the video, which is delivered in an integrated window, along with coverflow chapter organisation and onscreen data points to allow the user to explore freely.journey1001

At any point the user can disengage from the automatic map and 'go manual' to select other video experiences and information.

The current demo features an experience of New York State - over 200 points of interest are available, with two half-hour journey documentaries covering the beautiful Adirondacks through to the awesome Niagara Falls, and down the Hudson to New York City. In addition, you can go on a realtime trip up the East River and across Central Park.

The MediaSavi framework can can carry layers of any form of video or still information (such as hotels and restaurants, for example) as well as interactive experiences such as questions and responses. The video can be synced with a mapping UI as shown here, or any vectored model which is mapped with coordinates.

With MediaSavi you have the ability to create truly stunning spatial experiences which are fully interactive with video - the only limit is your imagination.

Possible applications:

  • Travel & Tourism
     Education
  •  Interactive factual documentaries with spatial content
  •  Presenting location-based projects and information such as climate change, land use etc
  •  Interactive floor plans of factories and cultural locations - effectively virtual tours
  •  Streaming news stories and their locations

The Country Behind the Cup

In 2010 we launched 'Country behind the Cup',  an Avimap demonstration of what can be done in adapting a 'linear' factual documentary for interactive viewing. It is based on the filming of the whole of South Africa by Skyworks. While 'SA an Aerial Journey' is enjoying succes as a regular broadcast documentary, CountryBehindTheCup shows how this can successfully be adapted to work online.

Bringing Maps to Life

Video content is drawn from Skyworks’ extensive archive of high end aerial video footage and programming. Shot in the highest definition possible, this footage is stabilised using special camera mounts to give a truly ‘bird’s eye experience’. This footage is edited into either micro clips or longer modular documentaries, complete with soundtrack and narration.

A New Mapping Experience

avimapiconAvimap brings high quality stabilised aerial video together with the latest Bing Silverlight mapping technology to create a completely new and engaging experience. Viewers are able to explore countries and regions of the world using this unique interface; short video sequences can be viewed individually or as streaming mini-documentaries, with the mapping UI providing visual location information constantly in the background.

Avimap is a joint project between aerial filming and stock footage experts Skyworks, and interactive web mapping interface specialists Earthware.

Working Magic on Maps

With their expertise in mapping interfaces in general and Bing Silverlight in particular, Earthware have created a new way for viewers to experience this content. By integrating the mapping and the programming so completely, it is possible to create a user experience which is both linear and interactive at the same time.

The Avimap product comprises different modules, which can be mixed and matched to provide the desired effect. These can take the form of both moving video content such as microclips and short-form documentaries, or of still imagery derived from the full HD video with deep zoom and photosynth technologies.
